These terms govern your use of vinstory.co (“the Service”) operated by VIN Story (“we”, “us”). VIN Story is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any vehicle manufacturer or dealership. By placing an order you agree to these terms.
What you’re buying
A one-off vehicle service history report tied to a single 17-character VIN you submit at checkout. The report draws on the service records a vehicle manufacturer holds against your VIN — typically including the date and mileage of each recorded visit, the work logged at the time, and the workshop that carried it out. Coverage and detail vary between manufacturers and depend on what the workshop entered against the vehicle at the time.
The report is delivered to the email address you provide, typically within minutes and no longer than 12 hours from payment.
Pricing and payment
The price you see at checkout is the final price — there are no recurring charges and no hidden fees.
Refunds
We offer a full refund when we are unable to generate your report — for example because the VIN is not in our supported sources, your vehicle is outside our coverage, or our systems are temporarily unavailable. Once a report has been generated and delivered, the order is considered fulfilled and is non-refundable, in line with the digital content exception under consumer protection law. A report which contains few or no recorded dealer visits is itself a meaningful result and does not by itself qualify for a refund.
The full list of cases that do and do not qualify, together with instructions for requesting a refund, is set out in our Refund Policy. If something goes wrong on our side — duplicate charges, the wrong VIN being processed, or other technical issues — email support@vinstory.co and we’ll make it right.
Acceptable use
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes. You must not:
- Submit a VIN you have no legitimate interest in. We only support checks on vehicles you own, are buying, or are otherwise authorised to investigate.
- Resell, redistribute, or republish the contents of a report without our prior written permission.
- Attempt to interfere with the Service or use it in a way that could damage or impair its availability for other users.
Accuracy of reports
Each report is built from the service records the vehicle manufacturer holds against the VIN, which we retrieve on your behalf. We can’t guarantee that every record ever logged for a vehicle is captured — these records occasionally have gaps, delays, or omissions that are outside our control, and the level of detail depends on what the workshop originally entered.
A VIN Story report is intended as one input to your decision-making, not a substitute for an in-person inspection or for advice from a qualified mechanic, dealer, or legal advisor.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of the Service is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of profit or loss of opportunity, resulting from your use of, or reliance on, a report.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
Changes to the Service or these terms
We may update the Service and these terms from time to time. If we make a material change we’ll update the effective date above. Material changes will not apply retroactively to orders placed before the change took effect.
